About travertine

Travertine is a porous carbonate rock formed by calcium-carbonate deposition around mineral springs. Its texture, colour and pattern make sound blocks valuable for façades, floors, stairs and landscape applications.

Density, porosity, water absorption and strength vary considerably by deposit. Processing should therefore be selected according to raw-material quality and the intended use of the finished product. Crushing lines are especially useful for offcuts, broken stone and quarry waste.

Recommended process

Vibrating feeder → Pre-screening → Jaw crusher → Impact crusher → Vibrating screen → Finished fractions

Pre-screening removes fine material before crushing. The jaw crusher handles large irregular pieces, and the impact crusher reduces the material while improving particle shape. The screen separates finished sizes and returns oversize in a closed circuit.

A VSI crusher can be added for 0–5 mm manufactured sand. For mineral powder, crushed material is milled and classified to the required fineness.

Important selection factors

Test porosity, strength, water absorption, moisture and the amount of natural fines before selecting equipment. Rotor speed, crusher setting and feed rate should be adjusted to limit unnecessary fines.
